Developing this idea and on the occasion of the Centenary of the creation of the Maison Hermès in 1937, Robert Dumas, the Director at the time, entrusted the creation of the first Carré to Hugo Grygkar. Thus was born the mythical "Game of Omnibuses and White Checkers".
Inspired by the tradition of "neckerchiefs" worn by 19th century soldiers and on which there are military motifs, even illustrated instructions, for illiterate fighters, these martial illustrations very fashionable at the end of the war 14-18 will very quickly be supplanted by those evoking the equestrian universe closer to the vocation of Hermès.
